The Controversy Surrounding A Forum For Minority Boston Mayoral Candidates
By

A September 10 forum for the six mayoral candidates of color on issues important to blacks, Hispanics and other minorities has turned controversial.

Columnists have criticized the organizers for not inviting white candidates to participate on the panel, the original Dorchester venue has closed its doors on them, and Charlotte Golar Richie has backed out.

Jamarhl Crawford, the editor of Blackstonian.com, and Tom Keane, a columnist for The Boston Globe, joined Greater Boston to discuss the controversy around  the forum called For the Community, by the Community. Though Crawford said he was puzzled by the pushback and supports the grassroots effort, Keane said the forum pits white candidates against non-white candidates. Meanwhile, both believe that Bostonians won’t vote just on race.
