“Many people felt the same way, basically they don’t care about us. Something happens to them, it’s a big deal. The wheels of the world stop. Something happens to us, it’s just kinda like, you people better deal with it. You people did it to yourself,” Crawford said.

Some 80 percent of violent crimes take place in Dorchester, Roxbury and Mattapan. Crime affects the psyche and reputation of the entire city, but none more so than in neighborhoods where it happens. Now the problem will be in new hands.

“I do not expect your support just because you know me, I want to engage you and I hope to EARN your support based on the merits of my ideas and track record of service.”
